Titanium is a lightweight metal that has a very high strength to weight ratio, and high tensile strength. Two of it's most notable features are that it has excellant corrosion resistance, and is non-toxic. These features have allowed titanium to be used in a vast array of medical applications. A ring made from titanium is very light and comfortable, as well as hypo-allergenic. At Buchkosky Jewelers we have rings of "commercially pure" grade titanium, which is the most commonly used forms of titanium in jewelry manufacture, as well as rings made from 6AL-4V titanium alloy that is not so commonly used in the jewelry industry. The 6AL-4V titanium alloy is about three times as strong as pure titanium, and also lighter. It contains 6% aluminum and 4% vanadium. Titanium 6AL-4V is more expensive and more difficult to machine, but is far more scratch resistant and durable. This means that your 6AL-4V titanium ring will maintain its finish far longer than other titanium choices. Titanium can be finished to a high polish, satin, stone finish, or sand blasted.
